Hong Ryun is the best friend of Yun Lee-Rang. He is also the Vice President of the school but it is hinted that he gave up the President spot to Harin because of his gentle character. He is quite popular due to his kind personality and is one of the most powerful students.

Appearance[]

Ryun has spiky turquoise hair and turquoise eyes. He is usually seen wearing his school uniform.

When he takes the Black Tortoise's cursed pill his hair and eyes turn black.

Personality[]

Ryun is a calm and kind person who cares for those around him. He tends to take responsibility for those with less powerful anima than him and is often seen fighting against bullies. He also deeply cares for his younger cousin due to always being told as a child to protect her.

The Dragon Anima[]

Hong Ryun's anima is the dragon, making him one of the most powerful characters besides those that hold the anima of the Four Guardian Gods. He is shown to be adept at controlling his powers shown through his exceptional performance at the school's competition that allowed him to be chosen as Vice President.

After taking the Black Tortoise's pill, his anima turns into a black dragon.

Plot[]

Hong Ryun is first shown as one of Lee-Rang's best friends alongside Yul-Bi. Unknown to Ryun, Yul-Bi holds feelings for him and she was planning on confessing to him on Lee-Rang's birthday hence her reason for asking him to cover her shift. However due to Lee-Rang's wish to go back in time, she ends up becoming a victim to the Black Tortoise and isn't able to confess to Ryun. After witnessing Yul-bi's death, Ryun holds deep remorse for not being able to save the girl he loves and this guilt continues to haunt him throughout the story.

Ryun is also one of the few students who are willing to stand up to bullies since he holds the dragon--one of the most powerful anima. Because of his powerful anima and position as Vice President many students hold deep respect for Ryun. During the school's competition to decide the new President and Vice President Ryun is shown to be a formidable student. However, when Eunjo places a vow on Euijin in order to help him beat Ryun, he instills the power of the Black Tortoise within Euijin. Due to seeing the eye of the Black Tortoise when being attacked by Euijin, Ryun violently retaliates due to his traumatic experience of seeing that eye when Yul-Bi died. This accidentally leaves Euijin badly hurt.

Later on when Seoyoon, the principal's daughter, is on a rampage after witnessing Lee-Rang's White Tiger anima awaken, she sends brutal attacks in order to kill the him. Disregarding his cousin's warning to run away in any scenario where he could die, Ryun decides to finally stand up for his friend and sacrifices himself for Lee-Rang. Luckily, Ryun survives and spends time recuperating at the hospital.

In the battle when the students infiltrate the school to recover the Principal's diary left for Lee-Rang, the Black Tortoise offers Ryun a black pill that will give him dark power. After being convinced that Lee-Rang will not turn back time, Ryun takes the pill in order to kill everyone so that Lee-Rang is forced to turn back time to a possible reality when Yul-bi was still alive. After spending his entire life sacrificing himself for others, Ryun feels the most guilt for not being able to save the girl he loved causing him to fall into corruption. The pill turn Ryun's hair and eyes black as well as transforming his anima into a black dragon. Soon, Lee-Rang discovers a blank page in the principal's diary that restores Ryun back to himself.

However, he once again takes the pill focused on forcing Lee-Rang to turn back time in hopes of saving Yul-bi. This time, a massive dark monster appears in an earthquake while Ryun and Harin fall into the hole. Lee-Rang manages to save Harin but can barely hold on Ryun's hand. Ryun, wishing to repent for his sins, lets go Lee-Rang's hand and gets devoured by the monster.

In the final reality after Lee-Rang turns back time to the day he made his first wish, Ryun and Yul-bi are seen finally confessing their feelings for one another. Ryun introduces Yul-bi to his cousin and is able to be with the girl he loves.

Suh Yul-Bi: They have been best friends from before they knew about their animas. She was the girl he liked but couldn't protect. He holds himself responsible for neglecting her due to his duties. However in the end when leerang went back in time and persuaded yulbi to confess, he accepted and returned her feelings.

Yun Lee-Rang: The two have been best friends, as Lee-Rang quoted, before they've discovered their animas.

Lee Harin: With Harin being the President and Ryun as the Vice President, they are sometimes seen discussing matters with one another. It appears that Ryun is one of the few people that Harin deeply respects.
